Big treats for poorly girl

So I want to make sure that Rose has a lovely last few days/weeks assuming we can stop things hurting. Anyone got any toptips for really tasty feed - obviously beet and I am going to use an apple chaff but wondering what people think is the most tasty mix and also other things to add apart from carrots, apples, cider vinegar and mollasses. Obviously nutrition and heating are not big concerns.

I've never been in this situation before but I think my horse would be happiest on the lushest piece of grass going with tonnes of carrots, apples, polos and fuss thrown at her.

I am so sorry to hear this

I had a month with Hector before he was put down, he had the best field with the sweetest grass and his best mate to play with, plus as many polos as he wanted till it was finally time to call it a day

How awful for you. I think George would be happiest with lush grass, as much hay as he could eat, then carrots, apples in his feed and his snack ball full to the brim.

When Catembi was seriously ill, he preferred 'natural' things - grass followed by apples & carrots. I also put molasses in one half of his food in case he wanted some & left the other half plain in case he didn't, & got him a field horselyx.

He wasn't normally allowed horselyx cos he was grey (see avatar) & ended up piebald & sticky from licking it & then himself, so that was a great treat for him.

Awwwww JR - how awful for you and for ned. I knew about 6 weeks in advance with my best boy and I'd echo other posters and say that natural was happiest. Lush grass, company of her best buddy, apples and carrots and polos, plus bute if necessary to keep her pain free and happy. Also, if you possibly can, stay happy round her coz she will pick up your vibes. I took a snip of my boy's tail too. And I stayed with him to the end even though I knew it would be shocking for me. My boy was pts by injection and I wish I'd known to put a towel round his eyes as he sank to the ground. His eyes stayed open and the thought of 1 open eye being pressed into the cold wet mud was terrible. Not trying to upset you but just to make the end as peaceful as possible. Thinking of you xxx
