Someone broke into the yard last night, well they didn't, they took all the fences down in paddocks with horses in to nick a farm trailer!! Fences down as in about 10 horses could have walked strait out on to the A50 (major duel carriage way) about 1/4 of a miles down a track! Luckily they all stayed put so all good.

I'm just a bit worried there may be a small chance they might come back for some horse??? Or is that being silly? YO says they've had it 3/4 times in the past and they've never come back afterwards, She thinks it is gypsies.

Arrr!! Wish I'd left them in now!

Usually, they wouldnt come back straight away. Plus, if they were in, wouldnt it be easy access for people to steal? Their much better being out. Try not to fret, i know it is a horrid thing to happen. Im sorry it had to happen to you! Try and relax, and if you are really worried, could you not go and check its all ok and go home again? Just to put your mind at rest?
xx

Well the yard is pretty secure hence why they came all the way round the back to pinch the trailer. Hopefully they'll not be that daft to be caught by the strange men in the middle of the night!

YO lives on site and will be keeping a keen look out, sure everything will be fine. Just annoying, stupid steeling people! :(

oh, so sorry for you at the moment.

My freinds yard has been being ''watched'' over the last couple of weeks so their security has been heightened and all liveries have been encouraged to bring in their horses at night. shes got a caravan that her and her hubby are sleeping in on site also.

i find it really creepy, the watching. random men walking next to feilds and standing still on footpaths behind hedges and things, eugh!

To be honest SB if they've gone to that much trouble to get in to get a trailer, it really doesn't sound like they would be after horses. And if they were, at all, there's no way they would have risked the horses they wanted to steal in that way by leaving the fence down. How awful!

Must be horrible but I wouldn't worry to much, the scum will know that security is heightened there now. I do sympathise with how you must be feeling tho xx

SB, that's some messed up turd! You need to go out and sit on the fence with a bucket of old smelley whelks and chuck them at anyone who dares go near, they will suck the soul out of any bad dooer! I shall come to thee and help ;) Do any of your horses have mysterious plaits in?

Seriously though, I would be vigilant don't take the chance. xx hope all is well in troubles ville xx

Get your horses freezemarked on their shoulders as soon a spossible so that they can be identified in the event of being stolen. A freezemark can be read by anyone and chances of recovery of freezemarked horses is far higher. Also get your tack postcoded.

luckily its not my yard. and i wouldnt be too worried, one of my horses has taken to biting any strange person who comes near, and captain wont budge for anyone unless im there or he knows them well.

talking of plaits, captain had a lovely one in his tail, with daisies and all sorts (YO's granddaughter)!

ben had plaits today too :D:D:D the prospective theives obviously forgot plaiting bands and had to seal the deal with gorse bush, ben looks all scrawny at the moment so they can have him, although I have cameras up as loading him will go on youtube for a laugh, ebony will be there in the morning though, she will never let anyone near her on 'spring, fertilised grass!' LOL :D:D:D

No plaits. I got a text from mum this morning just saying that someone had taken all the fences down but the horses hadn't got out.. I was a bit less freaked when I found out they'd done it to nab the trailer. Our horses field backs directly onto the A50 - don't want anyone randomly taking that fence down!!!!

There is YO and fam who live there and also the handy man guy who lives in a van on site. don't think I'd be much use, although the whelks idea is good! I quite like them with a bit of salt and vinegar though!

Why do people have to be such thieving, scanky ass holes!!!

If you look at the stats it's stuff they are mostly after (by a very, very, very long way), not horses. They probably cursed that the horses were in the way. Unless you have a shetland or nicely marked coloured mare/stallion I wouldn't worry too much. But do get them freezemarked, if they had got out it would have made it quicker to identify where they had come from.

To try put your mind at rest, if they wanted the horses or a horse I think they would have taken that with the trailer. Trailers are a heck of a alot easier to sell than a horse for these people. Our field is set down a long track with a gate at each end. we have had theives come in to nick our generatoor on about 3 occasions. On the final one they cut through chains on both gates and then used an acetiline torch to cut through the metal industrial container to get to the generator! The horses were in the stables at the time next to this container! We got electricity connected after that!

It is horrible though they don't care at all about the horses getting loose - they left our gates wide open but thankfully there is another gate and fence from the stables to the actual field where the other horses were.

They are unlikely to come back again - until the traiker is replaced! I would suggest looking for a nother place for this type of equipment to be stored so they can't get to it this way. My friend used to block hers in with their tractor - this is quite often worth doing, block them in with some larger vehicles. If it's not easy to nick they won't bother going to the effort so much.
