Hi all
Me and my sister where having a debate on what size of horse we preferred to ride.
Myself I like little and compacted 14.2's, whereas my sister like Giants!!! lol She keeps teasing me that I am riding a child’s pony lol  sisters cant live with them.

I know it is all down to preference but I thought I start this thread to get others to share what size horses/ponies you ride in different age groups. And also to share cool photos! :D
So what do you prefer bigger or smaller :)

My mare is 14.2hh and I'm 5'7" and I do feel tall on her. I've owned her since I was 11 (now 23) so I've grown an awful lot in that time, and she's gone from seeming like a giant to being a little titch :D. She's semi-retired now, which is a shame, as despite feeling a bit small for me she is still the best horse I've ever had the pleasure to ride! But I would like something a bit bigger next time, just because of my height (I only weigh 8 stone, so I don't worry about being too heavy for her). I ride my sister's gelding, who is 15.1hh and he feels a good height, although I wouldn't say no to something a little bit bigger.

Smaller! Current 'horse' is 13.2hh, last one was 16hh, although I did once do gymkanah (how ever you spell it) games on an 18.2hh!

This :D

Plus the bigger they are, the more risk of a branch to the face on a bridleway

Or going XC so you get wiped out backwards... :D

I like whizzy little horses who are all go-go-go but not strong. So my horse was 15.2hh or so, and the cob I sometimes ride is about 15.2hh as well. I'm only 5'2 so anything bigger and I look short on them though!

Al rides mostly giants (Reg is probably 17hh or so now, although we say 16.2hh!), and then the hunters are 18hh+. But she schools ponies for a family and is desperate for a 14.2hh- much more pingy and so much cleverer! Bee is 16hh and an odd mix of pony and horse- she moves like a horse, but is very clever like a pony. Perfect mix... If she's ok, poor girl. Vet in a few hours.

The bigger they are, the more time you have to prepare for the landing when you're heading for the deck ;) so someone told me anyway

Oh dear, I Hope everything goes ok with the vet

Of course, there is the problem of the small pony thinking they can fit under a low branch. While out on the POR phase of a TREC competition, we came to a boggy patch, so I let pony find his own way, he went to go under a branch which just cleared the pommel of his saddle...

I prefer small though. I don't think I'd be comfortable on a big horse.

Big horses - at a smidge under 6' I look ridiculous on anything under 16hh and then it has to be a stocky hunter type! Although I did hop onto my friend's 14hh cob the other day for 5 mins and it was great fun :D

I like big ponies, and don't really like riding anything over 15.2hh. I've had a few big horses but always go back to fun whizzy ponies. Horses take themselves way too seriously!

I'm 5'6 and ride a stocky 14.2 :)

My current horse is 17.1hh, and feels just right for my height (5"10). He's exceptionally short in the back, so easy to engage - but has a good length of rein too, so I have plenty in front of me for those Spanish Riding School moments.
He's perfect - from the tips of his ears, to just above his hocks.

Always big! I love a little whizzy pony every now and again but 16-17hh is more my preference, although sometimes a littler horse will move big, so it does depend on the individual. I think I probably looked teeny on my old share, she was getting on 17hh but felt the right size. I know, odd!

Mine just scrapes 15hh apparently but I think he's a bit smaller, I love the size of him because it's not that far to fall but occasionally I'd like to be a bit higher up because I'm pretty short and I need all the help I can get ;):D

I think me and my 15hh mare look just right together and she feels just right, but I do prefer a slightly bigger horse usually. Wouldn't swap her for the world though!! :)

I think 15.2 is a perfect height to do most things with - and as they (horses) come in various widths ;) that size can fit a multitude of people. :)

However, my horses do not seem to be listening to me - I have 4 over 16hh' despite the fact my last youngster's sire was a pony stallion in order to try and stunt his growth and he is touching 16hh at a very immature 3...
