Today i saw... a bit with a mouthpiece looked like a bike chain. Does anyone know wat they're called? And also, why would anyone want to put a bike chain in their horse's mouth. It didnt look pleasant!

Sorry for the quite random post but i'm intrigued!

Yes, I saw the one that Weezy has pictured in a shop recently.

Can you imagine horse tanking off with rider and rider sawing the reins?

It'd cut the horses tongue to pieces - aarghh!

it is a waterford snaffle and it is used for horses that lean on the bit. with the bit having several links they can not lean on it. i use the waterford on my showjumper as she can be very heavy on your hands without it. it is only a severe bit in inexsperience riders hands. ps it has not got sharp edges so would not cut horses tounge to peice.

Mule bits are designed for horses that are heavy or lug on the bit. It can be turned either way in the horse's mouth for the severity you need. Can be an effective training bit although is severe and should be used with bit cheeks to prevent pinching!! Horses should never be tied up or left unattened whilst wearing this bit!

I dont think horses should be in this type of bit at all, it looks medieavel not to mention cruel.

Whats wrong with a saddle and teeth check and appropriate schooling?
