Bikejoring advice needed

I would like to try bikejoring with Bax - ok hes no husky but i think he'll enjoy it!
What I was wondering is if anyone bikejors AND runs their dog beside a bike (on a walkydog for example?) I would like to take him out in the mornings beside the bike on urban streets before work then do a bit of joring on my days off on dirt tracks. Is this possible or will I confise him too much?
I could sacrifice the morning cycling if needed, but think he would benefit from the extra run time if possible.

Sorry for all the questions but could someone also recommend me a harness? The x back type seem to rub fur from his hips (he is very fine coated) and he isnt wild about the sensation of it so far back. He will slip a H back given half a chance. Any makes or styles that have worked well for you?

There is no reason why you could not bike him both ways, if you have one command that tells him to keep beside you, and another to teach him to go out in front (we do this for our dogs, the heel or the follow to stay beside you on a loose line or no line, then when they are in the showring, to go out in front and pull, er, trot on nicely :p) he should be able to work it out :)
 
Thanks for that CC, I had reasoned he was sensible enough to know the difference (famous last words!) but wasnt sure if it was considered a big no no.

X or H backs are no good for bikejoring, the point of attachment is too high and tends to pull them up through the hips (as you've found). Shoulder harnesses are best for anything where the point of attachment isn't directly in line with the dog - I use Manmat ones but have also used the Nordkyn ones on that link. :)
 
Not that I am bothered but in the UK it is actually illegal to have a dog on a lead or attached to a bike - or a horse!

I see plenty of people cycling and leading their dogs but it is against the law.

Funny how it's a recognised sport then, Foxhunter, and takes place at organised races throughout the country! Usually attached to more purpose built vehicles, to be fair, but Cani-X UK have specific bikejor classes.
