After watching a silly BBC programme the OH has decided that he would like to give it a go with Diasy. Now, we have briefly tried cycling with Daisy but unsurprisingly given her poor heeling it was not a success! He would like to go to training sessions but I have no idea if such a thing exists and if her lack of heeling ability would make it completely pointless (we are working on the heeling but it is still very much a work in progress, lol)
Any suggestions appreciated,

The trainer in the bikejor segment of that program is the very lovely Cushla who can be contacted via the British Sleddog Sports Federation website. :)

Tri Dog have some bike taster sessions coming up and Canicross Midlands also hold beginner sessions regularly throughout the season, which we're very nearly at the end of now. Can post some links up later.

Not heeling shouldn't be a problem, & pulling is an absolute bonus. Like BC suggested, check out locals canicross & bikejor groups - they'll be happy to show you the ropes :-). Some even have equipment you can try before you buy. We normally start our dogs out canicrossing before moving onto bikejore, because you can teach the commands etc while at a slower speed & hence under more control. You've got the GSP x haven't you? GSP's tend to love canisports, our guys compete in all sorts & are mad for it. Have fun! :-) x

Some links would be great, I've been doing lots of googling but can't find what I'm after!

She is indeed the gsp cross. I also suspect she's love it but not sure how safe she'll be doing it! Lol

When we first started i thought i'd end up in the nearest bush at the first whiff of wildlife, but luckily it just seems to supply turbo boost in the correct direction,LOL! :-)

:)

The taster session looks perfect, if it wasn't for mum's 60th I'd be there like a shot! (Might see if we can sneak off any way but I might be pushing my luck!) Do you know if they're likely to be running other taster session? And do you know if there are groups closer to Gloucester than the midlands group?

Thanks so much

I'm considering trying both Cani-cross and Bikejor with our new dog who is a collie cross. Our old dog was great at running- gsd- he would do 10 miles. New dog also loves running but I don't think I will ever be as fast and fit as her, so want to try bikejor. My old dog could heal on walks but knew when the running harness went on that he could go in front

And just because she's cute a quick video of her learning to swim today :D

you've inspired me to take Fitz to the local Canifit club to go Cani-hiking. He's a bit too young for cani cross yet but it will be a good intro for us both. I have already had both in harness and standard on commands in walk-I intend to run with both but think Quarrie will have to wait until I am fitter/stronger. I used to work my collie off a bike but running is easier for us to do :) but you never know!

I assume you're not local to Gloucester? Cani-hiking seem so far more my speed than Cani-cross! Cycling or hiking, yes, running not so much!

no, am in Scotland and there seems to be a lot going on up here as far as Cani sports are concerned :) I am just starting running again-I was always a very slow runner even when running for 60-120 mins 5 days a week so not sure it challenges my dogs too much ;)

as an aside, did anyone see the doggy parkour on telly last night? mine would be too into that!

Yup! Daisy had a play at the planks on some logs we found on her walk today - her preference is to jump over them rather than walk along them though! Lol

It's always interesting to see if there's a barrier in a dog's way, whether the dog chooses to clear it or scrabble/use feet. I'll take a jumper every time.

Daisy won't do stiles though, could easily clear them but if she can't go under them she has to be lifted over. Silly dog!
