Billy has been back to hospital this morning 8 weeks after his initial visit which showed him to be lame on all 4 legs with kissing spines. Treatment has invoved 15m x 15m turnout paddock NO BOX REST, physio, tens machine, IRAP, steroid injections and shockwave on front collateral ligaments of coffin joint and hind suspensories. The vet was guarded about any recovery, but i had to try. What an amazing transformation, he is at present sound in a straight line in walk and trot, on a circle on the soft lameness of about 1 on all legs, dependant upon which rein and on the hard lame 2/10 on all legs....again dependant on which rein. I am so pleased at this, i know it is early days but there is a chance that after another 6 weeks small paddock rest i might actually be able to get on him, if only to walk. I know indroducing work may reindroduce the lameness, but 8 weeks ago he was nearly pts.....needless to say i am a happy lady.

really have appreciated all the support i have sound on here thanks guys

Wow, that sounds like significant improvement!! Who is your vet? Best of luck with the recovery, do hope he comes sound to ride again

Aww man you havent had a good time, you sound positive though, at least you are giving him the best chances sounds like you both wont give up without a fight! good luck to you both keep your chin up. x

Vet is Sarah Boys-Smith from Rossdales in Newmarket, luckily only 8 miles from me, i have never been so excited about walking for 20 mins in a straight line lol Billy is only 6 i brought him 2 years ago for life gotta give him best chance, my other horse is now 28 had her 23 years. To start with i was not so positive but can't help but be after today!

Good vet and lots of attention (and money!) give your young man the best chance. I do wish you both well, you sound as if you are responsible and knowledgible. I applaud you having a horse for its life, and I hope this one lasts as long as your aged mare! All the best

today when i popped down the field to check on Billy he had managed to get both his shoes off, apparently he had been passaging round the field and doing wonderful fly bucks...think he might be feeling better lol
