Billets or buckles?

Generally don't let my bridled horse near pig wire or anything else that could just as easily get caught on buckles and bits. But I understand the concern.

What about opening gates out hacking

I prefer the look of billets but I think buckles must be more comfortable for the horse as the smooth side is against their cheek.

billets, never had one fall apart in over 50 years of using them if you clean your tack properly there shouldnt be a problem..

If you buy good quality tack , absolutely but I often see billets for repair on cheaper/less well cared for bridles.

Billets, far tidier and pleasing on the eye. But I am old fashioned and my horses never wear anything but plain hunter bridles, no flash etc.

me too!! I hate the bling, raised parts, rolled parts, patent shiny parts, white stitching etc etc,.... i had a hard job finding a bog standard hunter bridle for my ID..... got one from PE in the end and it's lovely but i would have liked it slightly wider...

Billets all the way, I have buckle cheek pieces at the moment and they look bulky/messy - need to change them!

I prefer billets as they look neater. I don't find them any harder to clean than buckles and just as easy to take on/off.

It's a dressage only double bridle, I don't hack in it.
