My vet (on advice from Knottenbelt) want's to biopsy Kazz's sarcoid as apparently it is atypical. There is one on her flank and one on her eyelid. As I guess many of you will know, biopsies can really aggravate a sarcoid.
The vet wants to find a small nodule and cut the whole thing out, then leave the wound open as stitching can, if sarcoid cells are left behind, cause it to spread. That would mean two open wounds on my horse, next to or in the midst of sarcoids.
If it is determined that they are sarcoids, for reasons not entirely clear, my vet is now on about cutting them out rather than liv. cream, BCG etc. And as the one on her flank is nodular/occult it covers an area almost the size of the palm of my hand, so that would be a hideous open wound to have. And the other one would be almost her entire eyelid!
If they are not sarcoids and are melanoma, then again the options are leave, or cut out.
I have left a message with another local vet for a second opinion, although of course because of the ridiculous monopoly that Knottenbelt has on sarcoid dx and tx then the second opinion will obv be limited!
She has been having a herbal treatment rather than twiddling my thumbs while photos to Liverpool etc has been going on, unfortunately no improvement from the herbs which is a shame, that would be perfect!
