I prefer to supplement all the B’s - because they work synergistically together, so get better use out of each B.
The danger of supplementing just 1 B, is causing a potential B vitamin excess/deficiency imbalance within the body.
Theyre water soluble, excreted via urine so are not stored long in the body.

One of the easiest cheaper sources for animals is brewers yeast, which also contains probiotic and micro minerals. It doesnt have b12, but that should be self-manufactured via the gut.
If nerve/energy levels in a horse are a major symptom i would definitely get a whole b complex supplement into them, or brewers yeast with an extra b12 supplement added on top.

B vitamins taste quite repulsive to our taste, bitter, yeasty, so any powder B vits are best mixed with nice tasting mash, especially for fussy horses.

In horses, they apparently should self-manufacture B vits in their gut via healthy functioning array of gut microbes. To what extent they do this and whether the average horse does this well on todays foods/management styles i havent read any indepth studies. (Thats not to say they dont exist, but i havent found any during my researches of late that tell me there’s no need at all, ever to supplement horses with B vits because they always have been found to have healthy levels)

Whenever we see skin/hair issues, spookiness, low energy, B supplementations via brewers yeast is worth trying, as theyre essential for many body processes, including neural health.

If it’s absolutely true they should manufacture them in their guts, (aswell as presumably getting some from seeds/foods from their natural diet) then we have to focus also on gut bacteria health with pre-pro biotics so they can optimise their own b function, alleviating the need for constant high dose supplementation.

From the very common symptoms of B deficiency that are seen in horses, especially weak hoof walls, skin/hair issues, its clear that they’re not all self-producing optimal b vits via the gut.
