So, today is my birthday (small yey) and after the really crappy year i seem to be having i decided to treat myself to some dee time.

Well, i couldnt have asked for a better day. :) The sun shone and it was a whole 10 degrees Centigrade today!

So, i decided that dee had enough coat through now to be out naked. And boy did she love it! We rolled, we bucked, we (and in she) farted and cantered off. All in all gave me a heart attack but she had a whael of a time.

A have a few pics and come to home find not only did every horse and jockey come home ok in teh GN, but also i won :D. *happy days*

So, a sneaky video

Lovely pictures but I can't help noticing those white marks on her legs from bandages!! Did she have those when you brought her?

Ihotse - no  that happened when i was in hospital and i entrusted her into the care of another! They put on elasticated bandages too tight, they got wet and were left on over night :(

The mess it caused was utterly devestating! Those white hairs are all that she has left of months and months of massages, special gels to rebuild the skin etc and years of sensitivity :(. It broke my heart, went to see her after getting out of hospital to be met with that :(. Luckily, no damage or issues but i could have lost her. Infection set in and we almost lost her as she went down :(

Thank you all for the birthday wishes :D

No one else is allowed to bandage dee now and she must wear liners, of go naked :D

Gorgeous girl, and she knows it!

So nice to see some naked horses out today. My guy looked in pure bliss today with the sun warming his back.
The amount of horses I've seen rugged up to the eyeballs in 15 degree weather today has been shocking!

There was frost on the ground this morning but by lunchtime the rugs came off. Mum was a bit fretful incase dee got cold, but i reminded her dee is fed a lot of fibre and has fur and to stop humanising her so much ;). Shes a horse, not made of glass! Mums worries were squashed when as soon as the rugs were off she rolled and her ears were forward the entire time :).

I bet your lad was plesed to be rug free :). I think dee is itchy and its been the nicest weather we have had all year :)

I know, :( i try not to think about it as it still upsets me. :( Lack of experience and ignorance caused that :(. Still, i still have dee and she's still beautiful :)

Poor pony, bad bandaging can do so much damage, have seen it myself in the past. Good on you to get it sorted.
Mine went out naked today as well, and as she's not been clipped and is moulting for England, I think she really enjoyed a good roll and the sun on her back. It's amazing how a bit of sunshine really loosens the coat, and I got loads out with a stripping blade, much to the satisfaction of the crows who have busily picked up the hair for their nests!

I know :( But, her legs are fine and she was a star during her recovery :)

Its so nice making them naked today wasnt it :). Dee really isnt moulting as she was fully clipped at the end of last year but her coats coming through and nice to get the sun on her back :)

Happy birthday!

Years ago at Pony Club Stable Management the instructor wrapped a bandage around each of our arms and we had to leave them on for all the session to teach us how tight bandaging can really hurt. It has remained with me to this day and I am totally anal about how who bandages my ponies legs..

Happy Birthday !

His Nibs was out naked today, despite the cry of "he'll roll and get filthy !!".

You know what - Shy is not a roller, and when he does, and get's really dirty, I love it - he needs a good roll to get the moult out.................AND it's what horses do ! He came in spotless today.

I can't wait to get him out of rugs altogether tbh. ;)

Overtight bandages are dangerous :(

Mum said the same, i dont care if dee gets dirty, i can clean her off easily. As long as shes happy, i want her to be a horse :D

well that's it isn't it ? Horses need to be horses - and they roll. So what ?

For me rugs are for warmth in colder weather, and to keep clean on the occasional show day. Shy knows what's best for him, and I go along with it. I certainly won't rug him to keep him clean

There are three reasons i rug
1) warmth
2) protection i.e. from cold, rain, flies
3) medical reasons.

:) Dee has a lovely shiney coat and gets groomed thoroughly so what she has some mud, its nice to see her roll, especially considering her past issues.

Lol, I just Shy would HAVE a bloody roll sometimes - he's really moulting atm. I made a mistake by not having him clipped a second time (money), and it wasn't the best decision. Ah well.

Hope you are feeling a bit better.

Thanks SM - in the words of nemo 'just keep swimming'

Adopter - thank you! Was still windy here but no where near as cold
