GOOD NEWS, We went back for Biscuits 3 week check up and the vet has said that it was just a bit of gristle in his hip, the rest has seemed to do him good and he is no longer limping. Best of all if we take it very very easy we may be able to jump again :D:D

And I have decided to start writing a diary of his recall training, it will help me to have it written down and some of you on here may be able to help me with any problems :)

His recall in an enclosed space was going brilliantly, it is perfect so today we went on the big fields

Practised getting him to recall whilst on the long line and he was brilliant :) Let him off and the first time he was brilliant didn't go to far from me and came back instantly when asked, popped his lead back on (so he doesn't associate having the lead on with going home) and walked for a bit, we went into the boggy part where I know he likes to have a run, let him off again and once again he was perfect coming back when asked.

Lead went back on whilst we went over the hill, let him off and it was like a switch had turned on in his head, he wasn't responding to his name of anything, managed to catch him (he found something interesting to smell) ended on a good note by getting him to recall whilst on the long line but it still took a quick pull on the lead to get his attention, then all the way home he wasn't behaving, wouldn't walk to heel and kept running.

Sorry if that is a bit rambly

I always err on the side of caution in a totally new place and keep a long line on, new place, new scents, very exciting, etc etc etc, that might have been the issue.
He probably picked up a scent over the hill - you need to be very careful and watch for the 'I am about to do one' signs, nose down, (or up in the air if he is an air scenter) tail up, cheerio now! You need to get in there before the dog is off and running.
Do you use food or a ball at all as a reward when he comes back, mine is getting food at EVERY recall, so that may be 20 or so times during a walk, I just take it out of his daily allowance.

What age is he? Mine is starting to really settle down and improve now he approaching a year (but hmmm, the dodgy period is supposed to be 9-18 months, maybe he is lulling me into a false sense of security :p)

Glad to hear his hip problem is not as drastic as first thought :)

We use food but we can't find anything that really motivates him, we have tried pull toys, tennis balls, squeeky toys, fresh chicken, normal food, now we are down to smakos (sp).

He is coming up to two and a half and we have had him since sept.

I may of worded the post wrong he has been on the fields before whilst on the long line, he goes on there about 4 times a week. He often follows scents but normally breaks off when I shout him.

Another (random) thing he has started pointing at things !!! ie if his ball lands in a bush he will stand next to it looking with a paw raised and the same if I have him on a lead and we are waiting someone we know he will do it when he sees them. I thought he must of had something in his paw so I got the vet to check it today

Will try that one :) Will it affect him very much if his evening meal is moved an hour later (sorry if this is a bimbo question) he is normally fed at 4.30 when we have tea, if we moved it to 5.30 (so I had time to walk him) it wouldn't have any adverse affect would it
