Biscuit aka Wizzy did his first proper "big boy's show" yesterday where instead of the usual in-hand class, he also did 2 ridden classes.

He came off the trailer full of beans and very cocky as he now knows about shows and what is expected, took him into the youngstock in-hand class where thankfully there were only 3 of us in it, in his trot up he was much better than the last few weeks but has a tendency to try and trip me up, we came 3rd in that so was a good start to the day (he was beaten by 2 fabulous horses).

Finished that class and had to quickly load him up as hubby was on call and hadn't brought his car with him, so had to bring him home to collect his car, that done and back to the show. Again wiz came off the trailer with an expression on his face of "this isn't the yard, where the hell am I now"

Went and declared Sophie for her 2 classes and got him tacked up and walked around, he is such a good boy, takes everything in his stride and doesn't bat an eyelid.

Went into the first ridden class - M&M, was a lot of us in there, 11 i think, quite a few leadreiners and then mixture of ponies/horses ridden without assistance and a pony that was in-hand. Judge did this in 2 sections which was easier, then asked us all to do walk/trot ups, Sophie was by this time excited as anything and bless her attempted rising trot, but Wiz's trot is very bouncy and she couldn't quite manage it

judge then asked us all to walk around while she pulled in the final line up, she kept looking at them both and couldn't make up her mind and eventually pulled them in in 7th place, I was over the moon as for his first time under saddle and Sophie's first ever show they had done really really well, they were given an orange special rosette and Sophie was chuffed to bits. However, there was drama in the ring as a little girl 2 up from us, her horse reared up a few times and on the last time went vertical and came over on top of her, unfortunately breaking her leg, at the same time as this accident another lady at the top end of the rings, her horse had kicked her in the face, so cue an ambulance and air ambulance being called in to take them both to hospital. Once again Wiz was a star as this helicopter came in overhead, other horses were going berserk and he just stood there as if to say "for heavens sake its only a helicopter" and just carried on walking around.

We then went into the best turned out (5 of us in the class) and again he was really well behaved and they got pulled into 4th place.

For his first ever time ridden at a show, taking into mind we only backed him a month ago, he was superb, I am really proud of this little pony, he is cheeky, very opinionated and will hopefully one day make a good child's pony. Until the time comes to sell him on, we intend to have fun with him, he has one more show coming up and then he will be turned away for the winter and brought in again ready for next years showing season.

A couple of piccies:-

He had just put his head down prior to this, hence Sophie slightly forward

Ooo, he's so cute

And how horrible for the injured riders. Hope they are ok.

But can I ask - what on earth is going on with his saddle? Your daughter looks like she's sitting right on the cantle?

It's the child's first show, and she is a novice, and I suspect sitting too far back having just hooped back on board for some photos. The saddle is actually larger than it appears but the child's jacket is covering the cantle.

As stated above, was my daughter's and pony's first ever ridden show together and she had just popped back on so I could take some piccies of them, wasn't particularly worried about her position for pix as throughout the 2 classes she rode in, her seat was fine.

She certainly looks happy too

Pony less impressed with his stash of rossetes by the looks of it though

She seems to have a lovely position - nice long legs and almost heel hip head alinement. It's just the saddle itself that looks really odd.

Thought it might be some fancy show saddle, although did breifly wonder if it was a racing saddle
