Im looking to change my mares bit from a fixed ring french link snaffle to something which will be softer on her mouth? I was thinking something like a happy mouth? Any advice would be great!

my very soft mouthed filly did not like happy mouth bits. have not tried any neue schule bits, as with everything very much a try it and see situation. i vary between a hackamore and a ported kimblewick.

My 2 dr mares are soft mouthed.
one likes a plain thin rubber straight. She backs off anything else but in this she will take a contact
other is in ns team up bit.

Sadly I think you just have to try a few.

I was talked into trying the happy mouth peanut bit but she kept tossing her head up, i wrapped it around my arm and imo it was awful, im sure it was pinchimg her.
She worked really well in the team up then on to the verdinbend.

I'm not really a fan of happy mouth bits, they don't seem that gentle on the mouth to me and if the horse bites through it then it's very sharp underneath the plastic. Nathe bits are a nicer version of happy mouth but they are expensive.
I'm another who loves the NS Team Up bit, have one for my mare (after trying everything under the sun!) but they are pricey. Saying that, they do come up on ebay if you keep an eye out for them.
As others have said, it's a bit trial & error to find out what your horse likes - some prefer a fixed ring, some like loose rings, some like the feeling of rubber and others hate it. Perhaps try something like a loose ring with roller? - a bit kinder than french link ones.
