Am currently at a loss for what to do with my horse as dont want to meddle with everything and mess up his mouth whilst hes still young. I'm looking in to getting a bit advice person out (Suggestions welcome about who to use).

I've got a rising 7yr old 17.1 gelding whos very talented but his pitfall is the fact that he sticks his tongue out the bottom of his mouth when ridden. Nothing else changes throughout his body and when sitting on him you have no idea hes doing it until you watch a video back. (He looks like the IOS emoji with its tounge straight down)

I was hoping it may be something that he would grow out of but im not sure anymore. He is currently in a NS loose ring lozenge and was in a flash which i took off as it made his jaw a little tight, and he still stuck his tongue out with it on anyway, also hates grackles and hanging cheeks so theyre a no. Have recently tried him in a drop noseband and everything (other than his tongue) is much better hes much more uphill and together (hes usually a little more on the forehand than preffered) easier to turn and much more off the seat, but his tongue is still out... I dont want to draw attention to his tongue either which was why it took me so long to try a drop. Its better but still not where i want it. Hes not overly sensitive or fleshy in his mouth and doesnt have a large tongue.

Back/teeth/saddle all reguarly checked and are fine hes just arbit special!

Any help greatly recieved! Did look at a micklhem but dont want to spend that much money for it not to work...

The last one here that did similar liked a drop with a Myler that gave him more room for his tongue, like yours he was not going to accept being forced into anything, now I would probably use the Myler with a Micklem but they were not around then, if you can borrow one to try it may be worthwhile, I have one for sale but it is only a standard so probably not big enough for a 17.1.

Which NS bit is he currently in? What is the thickness? As be positive says the mylers are quite thin so some horses like that.

Different shaped mouthpieces, different sized lozenges, lozenges at different angles will all put more or less pressure on certain areas so it's worth trying a couple of different ones to see which he prefers

I would definitely try a myler to give him some tongue relief. You could get one from the bit bank on trial or see if anyone has one big enough for you to borrow. Some horses don't like the tongue restriction of "usual" bits and my previous mare was like that, I had her in a kimberwick with an MB04 mouthpiece, I wouldn't go for a Myler with a high port as I would suspect this won't give him sufficient tongue relief (and not to mention the fact that they're a pet hate of mine as the port is so high!).
