Hi everyone
My horse is becoming strong when jumping especially before take off and landing which is making it extremely difficult to get to the next jump, he thoroughly enjoys his jumping but I feels like I'm constantly yanking at his mouth to slow down!
Could anyone suggest a bit that may help me with this problem?
Many thanks
😊

Is he just getting overexcited or could there something else causing him to be strong like this? A stronger bit might give you more control, but it won't cure any underlying reason for him wanting to rush his jumps.

Sounds as though he is anticipating - school him round and in between several small jumps and now and again at the last minute turn him and pop one. It becomes just part of life's rich pattern then. TBH a stronger bit is likely to get him more fired up, if he is anticipating discomfort in his mouth as well.

Thanks for ur reply's. He is only 5 and is just so keen on the jumping that he feels he has to charge at them, bless him 😊 he never has refusals or pulls out, I think it is just excitement, will try the schooling In between jumps and around them and see how we get on, thanks again 😀😀

My tb mare was like this. Lots of trot poles, trot poles to jumps, trot poles to low grids, etc. We spent the summer doing this and by late fall could canter to a grid cool as could be.

Good luck with your guy :)
