Thanks in advance!

Stats:-

* 15.2hh Connie X Mare 7 years old
* Short (very strong!) neck
* Just started schooling again - she's only ever hacked since being broken over 3 years ago
* Very fat tongue and extremely fleshy mouth

I'm thinking about trying her in a Myler? I like the sound of the port to give her chubby tongue enough room and the independent movement as she does tend to lean on me slightly.

She can be very strong at times and i think would benefit from something with a bit of poll pressure - hanging cheek maybe???

I've trawled the internet but too much info = confused brain!

I will be calling Myler for advice but wanted to ask you guys for your input too! Thanks :)

Sounds similar to my mare, fleshy tongued with quite a small mouth.

My vet recommended I try her in a Myler ported bit when she did her teeth. I have yet to try it as we are currently in a hackamore whilst waiting to have lower jaw wolf teeth removed but I will be trying it when she is fit to have something in her mouth.

If she leans on your hand then maybe poll pressure wouldnt be a good idea? Might encourage leaning? But def give them a ring. I dont know much about mylers im afraid. Sorry!

I know what you mean...she will lean in the school but hacking she will resemble that of a camel and will throw in a rear if over-excited.

I think i'm more concerned about her being comfortable in her mouth than anything. The leaning is more unbalanced/baby/tired/aching behaviour which will obviously sort itself out with time/muscle tone.

I have read several (hundred!) reports and reviews and horses with this fleshy set up seem to accept them very well.

Contact Neue Schule (spelling??) as well. They have all sorts of bits. I take it you want a snaffle type bit for schooling? I always use a pelham with roundings for hacking and jumping.

Thanks - will contact them also :)

She's in this at the mo ... it's got a very thin mouthpiece.

She doesn't seem very accepting of it though and i'm wondering if her having a flushy mouth is the cause ... maybe ...
