As i just read the previous message i thought i would see what you guys think about my bitting problem.
my mare has quite a fat tongue and is very fleshy lips this has meant that i have huge difficulties bitting her as lots tend to cut her mouth in the corners where the bit lies.
Now she is currently in a fulmer snaffle which is relatively thin and also curved and she seems to be fine.
I have had a highly recommended dentist out (who i was very impressed with) and he has said he has done all he can think of at present apparently the flesh of the mouth was being pushed against her first tooth and was cutting her.
I have has lesons to improve my hands (which i have been told are not at all bad) so i now ride slightly higher which has also seemed to help.

Now my problem is she is fine to dressage and SJ in her fulmer but i am thinking that i need something a bit more for XC. She is forward but does back herself off fences so that is fine for her but can be a bit hairy for me. especially when she goes into a quarry at the speed she takes a galloping fence!

ANy suggestions and anyone else had this problem before am at my wits end with her.

Thanks to all those who actually got to the end of my post

hiya!
maybe something like a myler combination bit.? my understanding is it works on the nose and poll berfore putting pressure on the mouth.. i could be wrong tho.!!
while i was looking for the best place to by a myler bit for my boy (below post, fat tongue.!) i came across loads of sites that offer an advice service and bit bank services.. it would be worth calling an experienced loriner (sp) to see what they think.!

I did try the myler combination a few years ago and she didnt like it, i think you are right in that it works onthe poll but unfortunately she tends to dislike being restricted in that way and was vey naughty!
but would be good to get an experienced loriners advice any recommendations of good ones?
