Well in need of a bit for friends pony. The vet said get a DR Bristol as it will take the pressure of the poll which pony doesnt like aparantly.
Anyway are there any bits that have a similar action to the Dr Bristol and what do they actually do? As we really cannot find a dr Bristol unless ordered from local tack shop and it will be 60 pound+.

Ideas greatly appreciated thanks.

Dr Bristols arent expensive bits! All they do is provide more pressure on the tongue so encourage a horse not to take hold as much. What is the ponies problem?

Oh thanks for that the cheek of the tackshop to charge over 60 pound lol making a fair bit of profit I think. Oh forgot to add its a full cheek Dr Bristol that is needed.

I have no idea what the problem is, I know its a pain in the backside, I just know vet said try Dr Bristol.
The pony did have bad teeth and doesnt like pressure on its poll apparantly, but then said if the bit dont work get a physio as pony could have tension in its neck?

I was baffled when my friend told me all this to be honest.

iv got a Dr Brsotl! its very good as i school and compete one of my 5 yo TB;s in it! i think thats a bit of a rip off inni £60??
got mine for £20 at my local horse sale:):)

Why a Dr Bristol? No full cheek snaffle has poll pressure. The Dr Bristol part means that the middle link is set at an angle to the tongue rather than lying flat on it thus is more severe than the similar looking french link. The only way you'll get poll pressure is via a gag or (some people say) a baucher/hanging cheek/B ring and maybe even if you put fulmer/bridle loops on your full cheek. Dr Bristol should be about £15.
