Bit advice?

At the moment my horse is in a single jointed eggbutt snaffle. He is perfect in this for flatwork but needs something stronger for jumping as he gets very excitable and steering is difficult! I also feel like i'm lacking control in open spaces.
I've been told to try a waterford but they look quite severe?
Was thinking a french link full cheek snaffle, I know that isn't stronger than a single joint snaffle but may help with turning having the cheeks?

I went to r and b and spoke to them, they were very helpful. I used to school my old horse in a snaffle and when I went cross country and sj I used a tomthumb combination bit that they recomended. Best thing to do is go too your nearest tack store and speak to them as they will ask you how your horse reacts to pole pressure or tongue pressure ect so they can recommend the bes bit for you and your horse. You could try a full cheek french link or doctor Bristol. Both work more on the tonge and the full cheeks provide a bit extra steering but by no means harsh, the doctor Bristol is stronger than the french link due to the angle of the link but both are less severe than a Waterford. You will just need to try a variety of bits until you find the right thing. Some of the online bit banks allow you to try the bits for a few weeks before buying
