Can anyone recommend me a bit - details are as follows;

9 year old Clydesdale X

Large/fleshy tongue

We have weekly dressage lessons and hope to compete low level next year, we also hack and pop the odd jump for fun

Problem - if she is being a bit stressy on a hack she puts her head up and tanks off

Not being as soft as I would like in the school - as mentioned, we have weekly lessons so we are working on this but would like to try a different bit to see if it helps.

Teeth were done a month ago

Currently ridden in a neue schule verbindend bit

I am wondering if the curve in the verbindend doesn't suit her mouth confirmation as there isn't much room in there!

Mine loves ported bits for this reason. But not dressage legal I don't think. May be worth a try for hacking/jumping. Mine did the same thing and I put her in a ported kimblewick, also a clydesdale X.

One of mine hated a verbindend. It is very severe despite claims to the contrary. As others have said I would try a ported myler and possibly on with hooks as these rise in the mouth so you don't get the bar pressure which causes the head to raise, I find it milder on the hooks setting for that reason, but they will go deeper in it if you put the rein on the ring rather than in the hook , so both options viable. not dressage legal though but have found a lot of horses like the low port myler mouthpiece.

My fell has a very fleshy mouth and hates a joint or lozenge, a hanging cheek Myler Mullen mouth is our dressage legal option ( we are in a Myler Mullen mouth Pelham the rest of the time).

agree with a ported bit - my horse as a really fat,sensitive tongue and saggy pallette. He has a ported happy tongue bit - they come in gags which are stronger than snaffles and many have a leverage action to encourage a softer outline. I found horses with fat tongues hate nutcracker mouth pieces and lozenge. (my horse has a happy tongue pelham at the moment but, I'm so pleased with the way he goes in it I think I may be ordering a happy tongue gag soon too!).
