I have a 5 year old who is very green and not long broken and having trouble with what bit to put him in. When he was broken he was very light in the mouth and hand (in a snaffle), he was sent away for 6 weeks for further schooling. When he returned he suffered an injury to his foot and was off work for a month. He is now been back in work roughly 4weeks with the all clear from the vet and now is very hard in his mouth, leaning on the bit, strong, ovaiding the contact and trying to run on with me and just not relaxing. His teeth are fine and have very recently been done. Any bit advice or schooling exercises that i could try?
Thanks in advance

I don't think changing his bit will help you any. You need to work in getting him to take you forward into the contact without hanging on your hand. I swear by a loose ring snaffle as it helps stop them getting hold of the bit more than a normal snaffle.

Just try and get him to relax a little more and work on keeping him equal down both reins, don't worry about if hes "on the bit" just make sure hes calm and listening to what your asking him and taking the contact forward.

My boy is also a green 5yr old and does the exact same thing. I find that if I keep him forwards he doesnt do it as much but when he does I push him forwards with my leg and he generally softens and starts to listen more again. I agree with whats been said above about keeping him calm and not pushing it too much at the moment, he will start to have less and less 'baby moments' as he begins to understand more and gets stronger.
Good luck :)
