Hi I’m looking for a bit of help.
I have a 17hh sport horse who has got very strong. I can’t try him in anything that has poll pressure as he hates it, I have tried a Waterford & cherry roller and neither are working. He has a soft mouth but likes to take a hold. Has anyone any ideas on what I could try him in please?? Thanks in advance 👍

I would try something with 2 reins, when they realise that you are not just reliant on the snaffle, they don't take hold in quite the same way.

My go to would be a double but I would question why he has become so strong and see if I could address the reason rather than just upping the brakes which may not work after a while.

speak to the horse bit bank or bit hire bank
you could try a kineton noseband

he is gone strong as he isn’t hunting every week & is getting some TLC, previous owner said he was always a bit strong and like to tank a long, but now he is getting well in himself and is getting a bit stronger. I always ride everything in a loose ring or eggbutt and was never one for all the gadgets. But this fella is to good and I need some breaks. He is sensitive all around the mouth area and has been known to often cut his mouth also according to previous owners also.

If he has been ridden by someone with heavy hands and ended up cut and sore you may well find he starts to relax and become less strong with some schooling and tlc, they tend to learn to run through pain especially out hunting when their blood is up.
I would be inclined to go back to basics while he builds up and see how he is once he has settled, is out in the field with the sun on his back, the last very strong horse we had here learned not to fight and got better when he realised he could soften, bend and settle into a rhythm, he came with a very sore cut mouth from being ridden in a variety of strong bits, here he was in a snaffle for everything.
