Hi Everyone,

I am a vet studying for a PhD in equine dental disease and a long time lurker.
At the beginning of June I am traveling to Morocco to do some work in a charity veterinary clinic which provides free treatment for working equids. One of the problems these animals face is the use of traditional, ill-fitting bits which can cause severe injuries to the soft tissue of the mouth. Gentle, UK- style bits are very much in need, and I am trying to collect as many as possible before I go.

If anyone has any unwanted bits please give them a second life and help to make the life of a working equine a bit easier. Pony/small cob sized would be best, please let me know if you have anything suitable.
Thanks. :)

Seriously? That would be absolutely fantastic and just what I am looking for.
Do you think you could post them?
I could refund you the postage if you like?

Thank you.

PM me your address - don't worry about the postage - oh and it's a registered charity you work for let me know as I could giftaid and they could claim back a wodge of cash from the government too...

JRT2106 I just want to say well done and good luck with your plans to take the bits to Morocco. I've been there and it's so distressing, seeing the horses and donkeys being driven, and ridden, in the most barbaric bits. It's not just the bits though, the harnesses are really grim, the sores they cause are enough to make you cry (I did, when I saw them), the loads they are forced to pull are unbelievable, and the way the animals are treated generally makes you want to go and um, have strong words with the owner. I did that too, and just got laughed at. AARRGH!

I know these bits you are collecting will make a difference. I've got no bits to send but am supporting you every inch of the way.

Wow. I really can't believe the response to this. Thank you all so much. I will pm everyone who has asked the address to send them too.
The harnesses are also a problem, and I could definately use spare pony sized bridles too.
Thanks again for your kindness and generosity.
I am going out for about a month and will let you all know how I get on and how your donated bits are helping :)

Sorry I don't have any bits. But it's a great thing you are doing. Looks like you may be over weight at the airport lol

Hello everyone!
Thank you all so much for your support with this.
Just wanted to ask if anyone had posted anything as I'm slightly concerned I may have a lot of bits floating around the Dental Hospital that haven't quite reached my office!

Hi

I haven't sent anything yet, there's a car boot sale near here soon, and I'm hoping to pick up a few extra bits there... Will warn you when a parcel is on its way!

Hi
