I think i heard that there is somewhere where you can try out a new bit and then return it if it doesn't work for you...for a fee obviously. Anyone able to point me in the right direction?
Hi,
Mylers bits advertised in the back of horse & Hound (lady called Heather) used to be the bit bank and is very knowledgeable, she loans them before you try!
Heather Hyde does Neue Schule bits, not Mylers, she is based in North Yorkshire and does do the bit bank as such, but does allow trials of this type of bit only.
I rang her up and told her about my horse, and the general type of bit I was looking for. The next day I received my bit, which he has been going really well in. When the bit arrived, it was covered in bubble wrap so that you could try it in the horse's mouth to see if it fits.
A lot of shops won't take bits back, but I think that Neue Schule's idea of bubble wrap (or some sort of wrap) around the bit would work on most bits to get a rough idea of how the bit fits your horse.
