Ok so bit of a long story ... will try to be brief!
Keep my horses at yard local to me and fair to say, they do have too many horses there for the land available as they've let a couple of ponies come for summer grazing and YO daughter has had few "projects" from sales to bring on and sell. Mine are now in a field 15 min walk from yard on their own which is fine.
Fields up the yard don't get rested, was no grass this spring and they've been feeding hay since horses turned out. This is why mine aren't up there - don't like feeding hay to groups and would rather they're eating grass this time of year!
Few weeks ago one of the ponies (yearling) was put down after becoming sick. Was apparently reluctant to move, not eating, tucked up. YO had hunt out as assumed grass sickness. Fair enough I guess but we don't know the cause because vet didn't attend. If it were mine, I would have had vet but their pony, their decision. I now find out that one of the horses was also put down yesterday due to colic - vet did attend this time *I think* although not been up to yard yet.
Could the fact that the ground is over grazed - and in all probability horse sick - be causing horses to get sick like this?
May be completey un related and may have been 1 case of GS and 1 of colic but I am concerned now
I worm my horses but they are very hit or miss with worming which, again, concerns me. Definitley not keen on mine being turned out at yard so will be keeping them separate for now
Thanks in advance for any thoughts!
