Hi, Need some help/advice regarding one of my horses. He is 5yr old gelding. Had vet out today because he has a discharge coming out of his sheath. Legs are coated in what looks like cloudy wee. Smells a bit like wee but not nasty like infection. Vet has basically said she doesn't know what it is and hasn't seen anything like it before! She took a urine sample and said its not a water infection. Horse is happy in himself and not showing any signs of pain or discomfort and was quite happy for her to prod and poke up there (think he actually quite liked the attention

).
His actual willy is lovely and clean not a scab or flaky bit of skin in sight. The only change has been a new male horse introduced in to the herd who is being horrible to him at the moment and chasing him away. When he runs away the discharge comes out like wee.
Has anybody seen anything similar or have any ideas what it might be?
Vet coming back on Friday to do more tests.
Sorry its such a horrible subject but i'm very worried as i lost my first horse due to cancer on his willy.

well, i have heard of horses being frightened enough to wee as they are going along, so perhaps he is weeing himself in pure fright at being bullied?
i would fence him off from the bully for his own protection, and see if it clears up. since it looks like wee and smells like wee...
hope he's okay.

Its like wee but vet didn't think it was wee as was cloudy and sticky. His wee is normal so must be something else going on. Horse has only started being nasty to him since this started so I wondered if other horse was just seeing him as being a bit weak and trying to get above him in hierarchy while he not quite right.

I have seen this when the horse had a new gelding in the field and the dynamics changed.

I'd suggest washing the legs every day so not to allow the urine to damage the skin. It settled after a couple of days and now no problems.

I thought it was as Kerille says too frightened (submissive action) and wees as going along.

Yes this happened to my new horse when i introduced him to the others at our yard. The alfa gelding was nasty and my boy would run away peeing a little. There were mares in the field, took the mares away and the nastyness and peeing stopped! Introduced the mares and it stared again. I now keep my 2 seperate and all is well...even though 1 is a mare and 1 is a gelding. Its an alfa male thing i think. Are there mares in with the 2 boys aswell?

There are 4 girls and 3 boys. My horse was in with other gelding and the mares before new one joined herd about 3 weeks ago. One mare has just come in to season though so that could be triggering it. I'll talk to vet and try keeping him in different field to see if that clears it up. Thanks for the help i'm not as worried anymore.

SOunds to me like weeing himself with fright. Had a puppy staying with me once did this every time I appeared as he wasn't used to me/my house. WOuld have thought it's cloudy and sticky due to churned up dust sticking to it as he's being chased away

wasn't kenzo's horse doing something like this a couple of months back.

Might be worth PMing her flight cos I can't remember the thread.
