embarrassing Ok, so my horse hasn't had his sheath cleaned, in well.. forever. The whole lot needs a bloody good clean. But I can't get him to let it all hang loose.
It really does need cleaning what should I do? I've tried rubbing his belly etc..

As the others have said. My boy hated it being done, but he got used to it really quickly and he must feel alot better for having it done

If you're gentle you can 'go in after it'. Most horses relax after a bit and let if drop out.

The bit you really need to check is the tip, where there is a little pocket (called the urethral fossa) that collects yuck that solidifies and forms the 'bean'. It can be really uncomfortable so even if you don't acheive anything else, try and removes the bean (which he most likely will have if he's never been cleaned before)

Some time back, someone on the Forum posted a link to the most hilariously detailed instructions on how to wash a gelding's willy that I've ever read. I meant to keep it but would have had a hard time explaing it if my pc had ever been confiscated by the Old Bill lol! Anyone remember the link so niagaraduval can complete her education??????

remeber to use warm water!!!!!!!
if he does react by kicking etc , gently persist...or get someone to distract him with a few treats whilst it is quickly done. they get better about it the more you do it. so if prob, just do a bit, then in a few days do a bit more.
