am using a wide mouth cottage craft eggbutt snaffle for one of my geldings, but he chews a lot, and looks like he is stifling a yawn

it only just curls his lip at the sides, has plastic protectors, and doesnt look too tight or too loose, but is chewing alright or could it be the joint in the middle bothering him?

he goes perfectly in it, so was thinking a french link could be better for him?

I'd second that a thick bit can be uncomfortable for some horses, plus the more movement in the bit the more they tend to fiddle. A mullen mouth might be worth a try rather than something with more joints, but then again some horses are happier in a french link as it lies on the tongue more than a single jointed bit so you might have to just try it and see.
