Just after abit of advice on biting for breaking.

He's had the keys in for initial biting last year and then he's had a happy mouth Mullen loose ring on his inhand bridle for when we go out showing and then this last 12 months whilst doing all ground work we've been using a full cheek happy mouth Mullen but now about get cracking under saddle and I'm undecided between a full cheek French link or a full cheek snaffle.

Many thanks

My boy has a fulmer (full cheek with the loose ring) single jointed as for some reason he likes them and not a French link. I have tried several with him until we found this one. I am sure as he matures we will have to try others.

Different shaped mouths/tongues will require close inspection before putting a bit in. My 4yo has a low palate and big mouth. She was in a happy mouth loose ring straight bar initially for groundwork and I kept this the same for backing. It came apparent that we needed some assistance for steering and after a few bits she settled in a happy mouth full cheeked single jointed snaffle.

Neu Schule loose ring starter, do plenty of long reining so nice mouth and muscle development and vocal commands, before the backing proper, I dont really like the french link idea, as to me it is "restraining", more forcing rather than asking as with a lozenge.

Will have a google thanks :) we've done a lot of long reining up and down the yard around and around lol. He's perfect with voice commands goes perfectly on the lunge now which if fab. I've sat on him bareback every night for the last couple of weeks I feel like he's ready to move onto the next level... Just trying to get a saddle and bit all sorted now!

Thanks for the advice, any more advice would be fab.

I know WelshD!! Just trying to find a saddle that wide enough for him and not costing a fortune! Should have asked Father Christmas for one lol!! He was abit shocked yesterday when I came in a dumped a saddle on his back to try after he's been loving the life of Riley for the last 6 weeks haha!

Actually, I break bareback sitting on a roller plus a nice thick hessian sack, [you may need a good rider who does not need a saddle], if horse is prepared there will be no fireworks, its just another strange thing humans ask of them.
I had my 10 month old filly walking round the yard with a saddle on, she thought nothing of it, and had a harness on age 14 months. She could jump tiny things age 7 months, and did her first breast high fording through a river age 10 months, she went on a hack age 13 months with her dam, loaded on lorry, trailers, and anywhere you asked. Its not a big thing to them , if you just educate them, give them time ot overcome any hesitation, but to be honest, they will follow you to hell and beyond if they are happy bunnies.

Had to post another one as that one where he's covered in arana makes his forelegs look really diddy haha

This is him in October I think just before he had his winter break :)

C &M I love him looks a really kind friendly boy. I started my baby in a rubber Mullen mouth, errm smeared in golden syrup (yes, he was a bit spoilt). Then switched to an eggbut snaffle with the aforementioned coating. No doubt many will not approve, however that lad never saw a bit he didn't want in his mouth. Ooh almost forgot to mention adore your lads speech bubble very unique and cute.

My lad who is similar age to yours is in a mullen mouth, Happy Mouth, Fulmer, which seems to really suit him - the full cheeks give a bit more steering than an ordinary snaffle and he seems to have a fairly small mouth so doesn't like a jointed bit.

He in a happy mouth full cheek Mullen at the moment but I just want to get him used to the metal now :)

Mr m bit was coated in treacle untill he started wiping it all over me lol will probably have to start doing that again though as he's become abit naughty when putting the bit in :/

And thanks everyone loves that - sometimes it looks like a love heart depending on how you look at it lol

Thanks kezzabell... Went to oakfield and robinsons and they've not got any!!! Currently searching eBay to find one :) if anyone has a 5.5" full cheek French link PM me :)
