Any ideas for a bit to address the above? My young horse has always preferred working deep. I realise that I need to address this through training - I am just looking for bit advice here

. She never feels good in her mouth (teeth sorted) and tends to run throught the bridle, especially at competitions. If I try to ride her up to the contact from more leg / seat she gets too short in the neck. I need to get her up and out more and taking the contact forwards. She has quite a tiny mouth, currently in a 16mm NS demi anky and flash noseband. I am going to try a drop noseband as she is very fleshy around her molars so I think the pressure of the cavesson doesnt help. She actually goes better with no noseband at all but then will ocasionally cross her jaw and shoot off leaving me with no control, so I do need something to keep her mouth shut. Bit wise, she doesnt seem keen on links or lozenges. I have tried a hanging cheek, both with lozenge and with myler type mouth-piece and she hated both. Any suggestions?

I would swap the flash for a grackle - much less pressure on the cheeks if you go for the Mexican version, and will also stop her crossing her jaw. Bit-wise I would stick with the demi-anky but try something with a thinner mouthpiece. My 15.2 TB mare has a tiny mouth too, and she goes best in a NS pony bit (12mm diameter). And then get some lessons! One thing I've learned with mine is you can spend a lot of time, energy and money fiddling with bits but at the end of the day if you fit so it's suitable for the horse's mouth conformation, then the rest is up to schooling.
Good luck!

Thanks for suggestion - unfortunately can't use grackle for BD. Did think about a thinner mouthpiece, but she is also quite sensitive and thought she might back off something too narrow, may give it a try though.

We have regular lessons, so on the case training wise!
