Bit for sore mouth

I have a thoroughbred which I hunt, but he is strong and I can't find the right bit. I have tried a jointed American gag, a jointed Dutch gag, a Dutch gag with waterford mouthpiece, a pelham with a straight bar and a jointed Cheltenham gag.
All of the jointed bits caused the corners of his lips to be sore and I want to know if this is because the jointed bits pinch when pressure is applied? The Cheltenham gag had the best result for brakes and control, and encouraging him to bring his head down, but again made his mouth sore, and the curb chain on the unbroken pelham rubbed his chin.
I am after advice for the next bit to try! Would an unbroken mouth piece be better? Or a bit with a link in the middle to help stop the pinching/'nutcracker effect'? Out on exercise he is fine in a jointed eggbutt snaffle.
I would be very grateful for any advice!

I've just posted somewhere else. I've currently got 'bit fear' as worried if go back to a bit I won't be able to resist pulling if stressed/tense/horse panicked and bolted, however after watching a Mark Rashid clinic a bit he felt sat differently in horses mouths and worked well were the rockin S bits which you can get in the UK and when I do musta up the courage to go back to a bit it will be what I get. Unsure where but if you google them or look at Mark Rashid (amazing USA horse man very at one with horses) you can read more, Hannah
