Tried my boy in a waterford the other day and was SO much better so going to invest in a nice neue schule one but don't know whether to get the jumper or the universal? Does anyone use either of these? Had a normal universal before but he could get hold of it and yank it and me out of the saddle which was not nice! Any opinions gratefully received!

I have the NS waterford jumper and its good & will stop my fairly strong event horse but it isnt THAT strong as I still have to pull quite hard (that sounds really refined doesnt it!!) I am considering getting a tranz Universal with a curb strap for SJ as the Jumper is good for me XC but raises his head a bit too much for SJ. I tried to improvise with a dutch gag & a flash strap last night but it didnt work as the top ring to was too high & the curb strap was on top of the noseband

That is a little what I am worried about. I currently jump him sj in the tranz universal but still have no breaks as he yanks the bit out of my hand which is why I want a waterford but not sure whether to stick to the universal or try the jumper. Don't really want to have three different bits for dressage, sj and xc - feels a bit too high maintenance!

I had no brakes what so ever in the universal waterford, she put her head on the floor stuck her nose out and ignored me!!
I now have her universal with lozenge with 2 reins and i have some control, not much but thats how she likes it!

He yanks the bit out of my hand and pulls me out the saddle. Do you think that is a strong bit? I don't want to be too strong!

This is what my new horse does! I thought it was just me!!

I have put him in a loose ring waterford which he is better in, he tries to grab it but he can't so much, he just gets really excited/anxious, I have had his teeth done (major power tool work!) so I am hoping he will get better now, I was going to try a jump today.

I woulld be interested to see which bit works for your horse?

I like the sound of a loose ring waterford but not sure it will give me the extra leverage I need. I am just over 8stone and my horse is a good 17'2 warmblood so I do struggle with who is boss at times and would rather have something stronger that I could be stern with at times than something that I have to haul him around in. However, saying that, I don't want him to back off of the contact and stop working through and taking me forwards. Oh how hard is all this bitting stuff!!

I have the NS universal 18mm with curb (normal link not waterford) for home but isnt strong enough for my horse out xc and sj so i have the jumper and universal in waterford and UNIVERSAL all the way /..when im out he doesnt lean on it but takes it out my hand and the jumper just makes him take more but i do have brakes in it but the universal makes him soft but not to strong he resists the contact!! 5****** star bit!!!
Hope this helpss xx

My horse is extremly strong. Last night she just tanked me into the fence, refused then when she jumped it again, tanked off with me. I don't know if she is in any pain, or if it's me... but I've got her in a Miler. And it's fairly soft, as she has a sensitive mouth, but she could just be running away from her pulling, which causes me to try and hold her back. Any help, please?

i have a selection of waterfords for my boy, last nite i changed from a loose ring into a waterford jumper and there was a defo improvement as he couldn't run through bridle as much when i soften he baschooled over jump instead of going flat and uck.............

But i also have issue that i lose his shoulder before take off which allows him run!!
I've been sent home with lots of
1 = small bounce exercises - to keep rhythm and to get him snapping up in front
2 = exercise so i can control quarters - to help get true show jumping canter and bring hock underneath us -
3 = as he very keen we have to introduce a game of sometimes we will jump and sometime we will circle............... so he doesn't take control and listens to ride

I think you sound like these exercise could help you
