Ive got my horse in a french link but its too big for him. He seems to go well in it (the few times Ive ridden him). I went shopping today to get a smaller one and the lady in the shop sold me a loose ring bit with a nugget in it. Thats not what I asked for, anyway is there much difference between this and a french link snaffle?

IMO it's better and I would always choose a lozenge if I could. They always sit smoothly on the horses tongue, whereas at some angles a FL can dig in.

There is qute a bit of difference. The lozenge exerts more concentrated central tongue pressure which some horses find uncomfortable and stick their tongues out. Others go well in them. The French link is flatter on the tongue but can exert more pressure on the edges where the joints are.
