Any ideas for a bit for an onwards bound horse that runs through the bridle? Currently in NS verbindend but she is starting to sit on it and I need to be able to give a sharper aid. She has a very small mouth so needs a thin mouthpiece. Ideally BD legal, though could use something else at home to get message accross and go back into her current one at competitions. Horse is 6, competing Novice, starting to work Elementary at home.

Ah funny you should say that as I had this very thought last time I rode! She tends to go a bit deep though , so might make things worse, but worth a shot (if I can find small enough bits !)

Look at showing suppliers/specialists for small sets of double bits - lots of show ponies in them after all!

Second the Full cheak Waterford, our mare can be very one th forehand and run through the bridle and this bit really works for use at home, we jump her in a waterford pesoa and she feels fantasticly in it. Good luck

What great minds.. I was just about to suggest a full cheek waterford as that's what I school my gelding in (usually on a hack on the common!) as he has a tendency to run through the bridle every so often, like K said, it just gets a bit of respect back.

An eventer thing maybe?!

Thanks for the suggestion, will give the waterford a go. I think it may be too strong for her because if she is not running through the bridle she is dropping behind it (mares - huh!). Worth a try though. I have been sticking to BD legal bits, but maybe something a bit sharper that she cant sit on might just be good to school in occasionally at home. Will report back
