I'm just a bit down today. I'm getting married next June and up to now I haven't really been bothered in a honeymoon and just figured that if we had one we'd stay in the UK and rent a cottage or something. But I'm at work now and someone has just come back from 2 weeks in Rhodes, 2 people have come back from 2 weeks in Turkey and one person is going to Spain for 2 weeks next week.

I'm a bit jealous if I'm honest, I haven't been abroad for years, but that's because I'm terrified of flying. I feel like I really need to get away and would love to go abroad for our honeymoon. I'd be willing to fly, but we have a dog who I'm not willing to leave behind as she's ill and needs special care and I'd worry constantly. I considered taking her but she'd have to go in the cargo hold on the plane and it's not fair on her. Belle (the horse) isn't a problem as she'd go onto full livery and I trust the yard staff implicitly (sp?) in her care.

I know I'll have to stay in the UK, but renting a cottage just isn't the same (or it feels like that at the moment). And I'm a nervous driver so wouldn't want to drive far (OH doesn't drive), but similarly I don't want to be too close to home (I'm hard to please I know

) I suppose I just wanted a bit of a rant. I'm sure there's some lovely cottages out there that'll be lovely in June.

Cookies if you made it this far!

ETS - I feel incredibly guilty now, I don't want to give the impression that Bo is a burden cos she's really not and I'm 99% sure I'd not leave her behind even if she was in full health, it's only because it's my honeymoon that I'm a bit miserable about it. Any other holiday and I wouldn't give two hoots where we went

hugs not easy how about a dog friend hotel they are out there and you could still be waited on ?? Even a bed and breakfast is nice to be waited on at breakfast time, would have to be one that didn't kick you out all day, they are around

why not get a house-sitter in for 2 weeks, i've used them and they are absolutely brilliant, can v v highly recommend someone from on here actually who looked after 4 dogs, loads of chickens and 5 horses for me beautifully, could not have been better. not expensive and totally totally worth it.
sort this out and book a lovely honeymoon!

Quite a few UK riding holidays, many accept and welcome other pets too. Might be worth a look?

Oh, and non-riding partners are welcome on them too, usually, so it wouldn't matter if OH is non-horsey.

Aww Hun - don't let this be a big deal - honestly! I don't think I'd want to leave a sick dog either TBH. Why don't you just have a weekend break after the wedding and then take some time at home, and have a long honeymoon proper another time? You will need a break after the wedding (trust me!) but if you spend it at home you won't worry about your dog, you still get to spend some time together and you can both look forward to a longer holiday abroad once dog is better and you have some time to take care of your flying fears. Honestly, the honeymoon is not the most important part of getting married. Don't let this get you down. <<<hugs>>>

Thanks everyone, I actually do feel better, think I was just a bit down for a while.

Riding and boating holidays do sound like a good idea, as does staying at home and having a proper honeymoon later (which will sadly be after Bo has gone as she's terminally ill).

Thanks for making me feel better, it's not the end of the world, and actually you've made a point in saying the honeymoon is not the most important part. I think I just need to stop fretting about it and make do with staying in uk and enjoying the wedding instead.

Glad your feeling a bit better, your only human so of course you going to feel like this from time to time, shows you care about your dog etc.

I'm sure what ever you plan to do or where ever you stay it will be just as special...cos its your honey moon!!

and you can just as nice weather in the UK, loads of people in our office have come back from abroad and its done nothing but rain.

Very true Kenzo, I think the green-eyed monster got a hold for a minute but I'm getting better! I'm very tempted by the idea of a riding holiday though, the ons I've looked at seem to have lovely accommodation and it would satisfy my need to ride!

I would highly recommend the Scilly Isles off Cornwall. You can get there by boat, dogs are welcome and the weather is amazing (most of the time!). It could be a nice option since you are going away but don't have the upset of flying!

There is also a riding centre on St Mary's which is the biggest island.
