Playing chess with pigeons
I was trimming some trees on Monday and Tawny bought me a fallow deer kid. (Is kid right? Fawn? Not sure). I had Ffee with me as well but luckily she was so flummoxed by the baby yelling and me shouting 'no' that she didn't get involved.
It was the most beautiful thing you have ever seen, about the size of a rabbit but with incredible long legs. It seemed absolutely fine and was yelling it's head off so I put it back where it came from. Mum turned up, she must have been watching me from the top hedge, and was barking and running around me in circles. How incredibly brave, I had several knives and two dogs with me!
As I left (quickly and immediately) she was heading back down to where I had put it and they were calling each other.
This morning I saw them (I hope it was them, I think it must have been) very close to Monday's spot so fingers crossed no harm done.
