I have a 2 yr old NF X filly, currently a good 12.2. She is very good in all ways, handled, feet, groomed, tied up, bathed, led out, worn some tack etc..
Her only downside, and quite rightly is that she isn't good at being stabled on her own. Usually lives out, so totally understandable. Been bringing her in, for a fuss, popping her in the stable for a few mins, aim to increase time in over the next months - no rush. I got a top door full grille put up - to stop her wanting to jump out. It works brilliantly. The stable partition has a wall (measured it) - it is 5ft 2'' high. I got 2 further rails put up on top of that, making the full height fraction over 7ft. I didn't want her to not only jump into the next stable, but equally don't want her to hurt herself. I honestly thought my plans would work.
oh nope... pony has other ideas. If I didn't see it, I would never have believed it!!
Penny thought she was so clever, she got her two front feet up on the wall - under the first rail, balanced perfectly, with her head looking over the top rail - as if it were a stable door... Her feet were flat on top of the wall - it is a breeze block wall, but you are talking the width of half due to the rails over them - understand me? No room for error, yet she did it with total ease and un-fussed-ness!! HOW did she do it? To get her feet flat up 5ft2... she is only little herself!!! AND.. on top of that, she ''walked'' down the length of it, before carefully lowering herself, no knocks, bumps or grazes, no panicing.... she did this TWICE!
So... my next plan was to put a third rail up, to make the total height about 8.5ft... but will this stop her 'balancing' on the wall? If she does it, but doesn't hurt herself, do I let her do it? I think she will get bored!
I thought about putting rugs over the lot, filling in the gaps between the wall and rails but she just plays with them, pulls them down...
Anyone got a pony sized cage??!!
