CCs owner got a new pony for her daughter last Sunday - a 13.2 (ish) mare.

CC, the new mare and the other pony have all been introduced, apparently there were no problems - everyone was happy. (Some more so but I'll get onto that.....

I rode CC on Tuesday morning and turned her out with both ponies - CC trotted up the new one, had a sniff then started squirting - quite a lot

I found this quite odd as

a) It's November
b) This is two mares!!

CC has taken quite a shine to this new pony - after a good squirt they then had a canter around the field, next to each other. CC normally tries to kick anything that come within 6 feet of her!!

I txt CCs owner this, and today she called me and said that when she got her in tonight she thought she was lame, as she was walking wide behind. It turns out that she has raw skin between her bottom

probably from where she has been squirting so much! Thats what her owner thinks anyway.

She has had cream on and seems better, but I have a lesson tomorrow and jumping Sunday so I'll see how it goes as I don't want to make her more uncomfortable.

Is this really weird or has anyone else seen/heard anything like this??

Oh and when I txt her owner about it she said she had to explain to her daughter (8!) what a lesbian was. Oops well she had to find out someday

If it makes you feel any better, my friends mares are behaving exactly the same. In fact one mare keeps between the gelding and the other mare (she clearly wants her all to herself)!!!

I think it the mild weather which has confused all the mare (mines only just come back out of season too).

If you think about it, from a natural equine point of view, you seldom get single horses - they always come with a herd attached.
So to your girl, the new mare is a possible sign of a herd with a sexy stallion somewhere nearby.

You'll find she settles within a few days, until then put vaseline or similar underneath her privates (I am trying to use vague terms here!) so that she doesn't get sore skin.
Also, reducing her feed, and letting her be a little colder than usual will help to bring her out of season more quickly.

My horse is affectionately known as the 'gaylord' of the yard.....

My mare's great-grandsire was Sir Gaylord ... everything now makes sense!!!

She behaves disgracefully with her girlfriends, but despite running with the stallion for 2 summers she hasn't got pregnant!

There is a mare that goes out with P and P brought her into season for 6 weeks in the summer

The mare was behaving like a stallion etc. She had to go on regumate to break the cycle. That helped and its regulated her seasons but when she is in season, put it this way, you notice
wink.gif
Poor P has no idea whats going on and just ignores the other mare

Don't worry, my mare is always a lesbian, at least on the first day of her season. In fact, I used to take her round to see a particular mare to test if she had come into season or not - instant answer! My mare is a complete slut and will give the come on to anything and anyone who she thinks might pay her some attention. I've seen her squirting at the sheep she used to share a paddock with in the past, and she parks herself between two stables, so that one inmate gets to chat up her head, and the other, her bottom. Its disgusting!!

Well I'm certainly beginning to see a new side to CC!

T A R T springs to mind

Sunny was a bit of a girly boy and had a boyfriend, Daizy was described as a Russian Shot Putter! lol! Melly only ever squirts at mares - or sheep - so Im rather hoping that she will stand for the stallion next year!!
Melly obviously see's me and Karen together and takes it as the norm, and never bothers with geldings! lol! x

Ellie has made both the mares she is turned out with come into season. She only has to look at them for them to start squirting - with one in particular, it is quite funny as she will stop two or three times on a walk across the field to squirt! I dont know whether it means they are all lesbos, or whether Ellie is being dominant which in turn is making them submissive! But they all seem fine together
smile.gif

You know, know you say that it has got me thinking - this new pony is actually quite dominant, not nasty in any way but she has defiantly found a place in the herd! Ok there is only three of them
grin.gif
wink.gif
but I could tell today when I gave them their hay that she is quite confident and not 'shy' with the others.

CC was always the dominant with them, so maybe CC has met her match and decided to just love her instead

I took CC out today and they were calling to each other *Rolls eyes*

Yup, sounds just like my girl and her herd! (there are only three of them, too!) I'd say there are dominance issues going on
