Ok so a couple of friends of ours are getting married next weekend and to cut a long story short.... there's a running joke between the best man and groom abour a horse. He was wondering whether it would be possible to hire a horse for the day that they could walk in during the speech and have in the photos after. Do places actually do this? And what would the cost be approx? The wedding is in Swanage.

Told you it was a weird one... :)
 
I know plenty of people who have had their horse at their wedding, but usually they own the horse! I doubt there's anywhere that specialises in hiring out horses for weddings because surely if you wanted a horse at your wedding you'd want it to be your own horse? Even so it might be worth contacting local riding schools or maybe even liveries to see if they have a horse you could borrow...no idea what price they would expect though!
Although I doubt you'll find many horses that will be happy to 'walk in during the speeches'...I guess it depends where 'in' is though! :rolleyes: :D
 
You would get about £200 if you get approched for this..They charge £300 FOR 2 DOVES TO BE RELEASED after the service. true and the doves fly back so they use them again for the next wedding or funaral.just google white doves.
 
Maybe contact local pony club secretary or riding club? They may know of horses who might be used for displays / parades etc who could cope with the atmosphere. I was contacted once by the local pony club secretary with a request to use my pony as a flag bearer horse for a parade. I took him along and had a really fun day.
 
My horse has been in countless wedding photos because we walk through a wedding venue to get to his field. he's always happy to pose for free :D but I'm nowhere near you.

I would approach a local petting zoo to try to get a shetland. That would be hilarious :D And they quite often let them go to events like parties and village days so should be worth a shot :p
 
My horse came to my wedding - he loved it, especially the champagne. He was pretty good at coping with the general noise and commotion but it probably helped that he knew quite a few people there who stayed with him, and we brought a shetland along too for company.

Not sure if it is offered as a service by anyone... perhaps an RDA centre may help, as they might have some safe sensible horses?
 
I suggest that you contact someone who provides horses for film & TV, these will be used to crowds and weird scenarios - even the quietest of RS plods can lose the plot in such unfamiliar surroundings.
 
Are there any local firms who do wedding carriages? I have a friend who does this and he also does a roaring business in single horses for weddings so you might find someone similar there. We're Scotland (Central Belt) so a bit far for him to come!
 
Haha i have enjoyed reading your replies! I agree with the shetland idea i think it would just add to the comedy. im up in Bolton so im not familiar with the local riding clubs etc around Swanage but il have a good google tomorrow! Will try carriage companies too :) x
 
you could try places who have pantomime horses, there is a stables in Hurst, Berkshire, called Worlds End who have a herd of white shetlands they loan out all over the Uk for pantomime season. they may not come to Bolton but they may know someone who does have similar near you?
 
If you are happy with a little one, try googling "pony parties" there are a lot of these springing up now. Their ponies are used to being indoors at kids parties, old folks homes etc.

Cracker who was rescued by members on here has been rehomed to one, but thats in Durham.
 
I know of a couple of contacts that could help you out with this! They do swordfighting, jousting, knights in armour on horseback or a princess/queen for weddings, parties etc plus various other things. They are pretty reasonably priced. Give me a PM and I will give you there contact details. :)

Haha my old cob ended up in a couple of wedding shoots due to walking past a wedding venue where I used to hack. Fortunately he was so good that both bride and groom got on at the same time both times! I am also nowhere near now and the current horses would probably be to big, and one may be liable to kicking someone......

That's entrepreneurship, there are ongoing costs to running any business including advertising and promotion, and talking to b&g as well as going to venue............. also losses, my very own pussy cat has taken all the white doves of my neighbour over several years.
