Numpty alert - this may be an outrageously daft question!!

I can't get my horse to the vets to get her height measured for the CHAPS classes at our local County show...soooo...was wondering if its acceptable for a coloured non-native to enter the Riding Horse classes? (she is a riding horse type)...its just that I have never ever seen a coloured in an RH class and don't want to feel like a t**t if its not really the done thing!! But I can enter on a day ticket and she doesn't need to be height measured!

Ta muchly.

I am fairly sure that you only need a height certificate if you are taking part in their HOYS classes, and then only if you are showing a pony, ditto with the BSPA, but do double check as I mainly show with BSPA.

If your mare is under 15 hands as a non native then you will need the certificate but not for their general classes. For CHAPS the hairies are 14.2 to be classed as ponies, but BSPA, both hairies and non hairies are 15 hands.

Finally a coloured can do any class a solid can and now are often at the top end of the line.

Agree with Theresa.

My friend showed in CHAPS classes last year at County level and she did not get a height certificate. She thought she needed to but checked and didn't. She was showing a non-traditional 15.2HH.

Maybe worth ringing CHAPS and double checking. They've always been very helpful when I've spoken to them :).

Have seen a coloured in an affiliated hack class and there is one that does hunter classes. It would be unusual but why not. Can't help with the CHAPS stuff at all.

Yes, you don't need a height certificate for the over 153cm (15hh) classes but upto 153cm you do have to have one and send it with your entry. My horse is 15hh and would go in the non-native up to 153! This is in the CHAPS/BSPA rule books and also the county show's rules.

But thanks for the info about the RH classes....nice to know we could do the small RH class (which is upto 158cm) and you don't need a height cert.

Thanks again
