Bought my sec c last winter, and moved to new yard recently which we are hacking more, he's been kept in a French link snaffle and we have noticed how I have no breaks, I've waited 6 months to school and see if he improves but I've come to a dead end, someone has suggested me to try a gag but I'm so unsure! As have heard bad things bout them. I am wits end, I have no brakes! He used to be in a cart so is very strong.

I have a horse that used to pull logs on the forest.
I use use strength he will get very strong. Of I use a very gentle hand and contact he responds very gently. If he has driven he will respond to voice aids

When I was very young I used to ride a lot of mainly Welsh ponies including stallions that were also driven they were all very strong so they were ridden in Pelham or kimblewicks, a snaffle was never used on any of them they were all very fiery strong horses, why they were all like that I don't know I was only a kid so just did whatever I was told I do remember them being really good fun to ride and drive I probably wouldn't be so keen now though.:)

My sec c works perfectly to voice and seat commands. She would be labelled strong but the more you pull the more she pulls back. My 7yr old daughter can ride her in a snaffle using the same voice commands. I have trained her by using the command when she is doing the action I want her to do for that command. She is very clever and learned quickly.
