My boy isn't strong any other time than on Xc. He locks onto a fence and just goes and he needs a few extra brakes to slow up for drops etc. He is a big boy and I'm only little I might add. He was in a rubber Pelham today with curb but is isn't really helping. Any other suggestions?it is only Xc and is perfect in all other situations.

Mine's the same. I use a Waterford xc, but she's in a snaffle for everything else, including sj. I know a lot of people don't like Waterfords, but my horse respects it so I don't need to do more than twitch my hand to bring her back to me. In her snaffle she just gallops at the jumps, which is a tad scary!

I used to ride him in a Waterford but the snaffle version wouldn't be enough. Wondering whether a gag or Pelham version might help?

My mare is similar and I've found a kimblewick works really well. She really respects it and I don't have to constantly fight her, just a small amount of pressure and she comes straight back :)

Would a Kimblewick be any stronger than a Pelham?he is in a rubber straight bar one at the moment. I could try a Tom Thumb can I put a curb with it?

Thankyou does a jointed Pelham not effect the curb action?i tried him in a Dutch gag tonight on the second ring and he was still leaning and taking hold into a fence. Not sure if a Waterford mouthpiece would help
