I'm hoping to go to Aston-Le-Walls horse trials at the end of august to do the unaffiliated intro or pre-novice. What bit can I use in the dressage phase? The plan was:

Dressage: Cheltenham gag, GP saddle
Show jumping: Cheltenham gag, breastplate martingale, GP saddle
XC: same as SJ

Also, any other tack rules? nose bands? boots? numnahs? what the rider wears?

Sorry, I have tried looking for it online but can't find anything helpful.

Thanks in advance :D

Cheltenham gag not allowed in the dressage, but aside from that you're good to go :)

You'll need a body protector and medical armband for the XC as well.

You need a snaffle for the dressage phase. The rest sounds fine :)
Neat tidy numnah/pad- lots will use white but I prefer to use plain dark colours. Boots if your horse needs them for sj/xc, not allowed for dressage.
Rider cream/beige breeches, long boots or short +gaiters, dark jacket or tweed, hair tied up neatly ideally in a hairnet! Good luck.

Oh no! :(
I do flatwork her in a snaffle at home but if the dressage is on grass she's going to be so strong :(
Guess I'll have to start practicing. Thank you for the quick, informative reply!:)

Also, do you have a number bib to slot paper numbers into? You will need one of those. You can buy them, or maybe you could borrow one from a friend?

Best of luck :)

Hiya,

This link will take you to the relevant page on the BE website, if you scroll down the downloads you will get to H. Chapter 7 Competitors Dress and Saddlery Equipment. There is a page with pictures of allowable bits. Most unaff. competitions run to these rules as well and they cover everything for all phases.

Don't forget you will also need to take a cash "start fee" normally £10 - £15

Good luck and have fun!!

Such a helpful link! Thanks so much guys! I saw the starting fee on the schedule...just out of curiosity...what is it? :)
