I have a KK spenger at the current moment with loz, but are having contact problems, I suddenly thought that as my mare has a big traditional head so her tongue could be bigger than usual, any suggestions & what bit I could go down too, I don't want a harsh bit. I was thinking about going to Neue Schule Verbindend Loose Ring Snaffle but was unsure & mm, any ideas anyone

Have you had a look at Myler bits with a port? This would allow extra room for her tongue. They have snaffles with different cheek pieces

To see if she has a large tongue, just pull her lips up and see if her tongue bulges out at the bars.
We have a traditional with a fat tongue and he is only happy in ported bits. He hated the neue schule verbidend, I don't think it gave him any tongue room.

I have been trying the NS turtle top with a Micklem bridle with some success on my Dutch wb who has a small mouth and a large tongue. He was in the verbindend but was quite busy in his mouth with it.

I have THE most sensitive fussy ISH in the world.

I've tried all sorts of bits and most he hated. He hated the Sprenger bits but was OK in a Tranz Angled NS. However he's by far the best in a Myler Comfort snaffle. I've only tried a non-ported one as he's fine in it and don't want to rock the boat by trying a low port!

If you go onto ebay there's an English company (Heritage saddlery) who sell good quality knock off versions of the comfort snaffle at less than half the Myler price.

They fit really large though so you'll prob need to go down a size.

We loaned an ISH with a large tongue. He was happiest with a thin mouthpiece, we found a bridoon snaffle worked best!

You could try a thinner bit if the horse has a big tongue, or one with a curve. If she is tucking behind the contact it's worth trying a sprenger duo plastic bit until she has more confidence
