My new horse, well not new I got him at the new year but we have been slow starting work, isnt happy in his current bit and we could do with some suggestions to try please :)

He is currently in a happy mouth straight bar and HATES it. Tongue over bit half the time and generally unhappy even on a very light contact

He came in a myler and iv thought about going back but I swapped in the first place as that felt to strong for him so I thought a little happy mouth would go down well. He is very similar to my old tb who was very light and loved his happy mouth straightbar

He doesnt seem to have a thick tongue, just normal, but he came with a chifney and a big rearing in hand habit so that chifney wouldnt have helped his attitude to bits

Horse bit hire have a video consult service for a fiver I think, Gail is lovely and so helpful, then you can always hire the bit first to try, great especially for the more expensive bits.

Have you had his teeth checked and checked the bit is the right way round and that everything fits? You could try hackamore? Have you tried in a normal D-ring Snaffle?

That's why there are so many different bits! Because horses are individuals and what suits one does not necessarily suit another. I usually start with an ordinary loose ring snaffle and move onwards according to how the horse responds. You could try a lozenge variety (there are loads of different ones), or go back to basics with the loose ring.
