My very slight 9 yr old is coming on in leaps and bounds with her pony and is now really getting into cantering. Her 23yr old partner in crime is an absolute saint and following a recent clip, addition of joint supplement and a change in diet has stopped being a reluctant kick along type and they are merrily cantering around all over the place. However with the increased enthusiasm which we are all very pleased with comes increased reluctance to slow down, particularly out hacking.
Pony is currently in a full cheek French link and am looking for something which is good for steering and a bit more definite in braking. His tendency is to lower his head and bowl along which is no match for my tiny daughter. We have tried pulljng on ine rein but he is quite deadset. Once she gets a bit more strength we will resort back to milder bit but just for my sanity at the moment I was hoping for some recommendations? A Wilkie maybe?
