When I look at George's bit (hanging cheek myler) it looks quite high in his mouth (2-3 wrinkles), but he goes nicely with it like this (plus drop noseband) and doesn't seem to be uncomfortable. But every now and then I have a fit of guilt and put it down a hole which looks right in his mouth. He then messes about with his head, leans on my hands and seems really uncomfortable. I think I have just answered my own question, but i'm just a bit unsure.

Sorry, no pic at the moment will try and get one tomorrow.

Thanks

I think you just answered your own question too!

You can't go by the amount of wrinkles, thats an old myth as to hazard a guess where the bit should be, all horses have different mouths, some with more fleshy lips etc so some lips will wrinkle up more than others, your horse will tell if you something is not right, by the sounds of it he did, doesnt matter how many wrinkles there are.

Sounds right for him as it is then. Bare in mind that if you have it too low it will bang against his teeth so be uncomfortable, so it's better for him to have it a bit higher so long as not too high. If it was to high he wouldn't just have wrinkles it would look like his mouth is being pulled upwards.

When you've got his bridle on, part his lips and look where the bit is in relation to his teeth - that's what's important, not x number of wrinkles!
