Does anyone have any experience of the NS Waterford Nelson Running Lever?

I have just come off the phone to them and they are recommending it for my boy.

He's currently in a NS loose ring waterford, but out hunting and team chasing he gets deep, on his forehand and strong. When he's so on his forehand and pulling steering (and stopping) becomes an issue!

Has anyone used the Waterford Nelson Running Lever in similar situation?

I was also looking at the NS waterford jumper, but they didn't mention it. Anyone any experience with this bit?

Sorry Ive not heard of it before but interested in what others say. My boy is in a full cheek waterford as we have breakage and steering issues too! Would be good to see the comparisons are.

Had never heard of one before.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained:)

Nor me....Ive learned something new. Is there some reason why the names of these bits have to get progressivley more complicated!!?

Agreed.

I was expecting something very complicated not a fairly basic gag in reality.

To me, if asked to describe it I would say waterford gag with fulmer cheeks, you'd get the general gist of what I meant wouldn't you? I suppose they have to call it something though.

Have you tried a Cheltenham?

Some horses fight them by hollowing their neck - just so you are aware.

Can you use two reins as this bit won't work with one rein?

I decided to try this bit and it does a perfect job, does just what it says on the tin!

Team chased my boy yesterday and instead of fighting him and him barrelling along on his forehand we had a wonderful round. A slight half halt and he came back to me, and sat back off his forehand nicely.

It was such a pleasant change. No yanking on his mouth, no arguments. Just lightness and control :D

I too use this bit and it is now referred to by my instructor and the whole yard as the 'Magic Bit'. It's been borrowed by so many people I lose count.

Strong horses become light and responsive and they don't object to it in any way shape or form. I can't recommend it highly enough and the number of people who have tried it and then gone on to buy one is testimonial enough I think.

Used to be called a Nelson Waterford Gag - not sure why it's been renamed........?

Urgh Neue schule trying to rename bits - idiots

Lever = running gag

Although they have dropped the term "gag" from their universals, maybe they are trying to make the names of bits more PC, by not using the term gag

Also just search Nelson Waterford and you'll find cheaper prices too!

Nelson is a true name, and its a full cheek, not a fulmer. If you cannot handle the proper names, buy a decent book on lorinery
