Hi guys, after having a chat with my trainer he says i should put rock in something with a curb to showjump and XC him. For anyone who didnt read previous post, hes currently in a 3ring metal snaffle on second ring (have also tried him on snaffle ring to no avail) and i have no steering and he tucks his head into his chest, i think its too much poll pressure for him!
So i was wondering if someone could recommend a bit with a curb, something not too harsh and maybe rubber or a sweet metal?
I'm not very keyed up on this bitting thing! lol

Look forward to hearing your suggestions

Have you ever ridden the dutch they way it is designed, with a leather curb on it?
Thing with Kimbs is there is more to lean on than a jointed bit, but really it is only as strong as you need it to be.

Well the dutch was actually designed to be used with a leather curb so it could be worth a shot, just try him at home in it- see how reacts.
Before I switched my coloured out of the DG I tried one with a waterford mouthpiece, less to grab hold of and a little bit more control- it just didnt do the job out hunting.

Kayleigh a kimblewick really isn't a strong bit at all! You can also get a variety of mouthpieces if you do not want a straight bar (I have a KK lozenge kimblewick, a french link AND a single link!). If you have issues with poll pressure then I would not put a curb on the dutch gag as you ain't going to be getting rid of the pressure at all

ring heather at neue schule and ask her about the tranz continental with lozenge...i have found it superb on a very strong elephant of a horse. i was on to her yest re: double bridle bits and she was telling me in some horses the curb has a pacifying effect...certainly the case with my doll anyway!!

Ah but Neue Schule don't do kimblewicks, which is why we made one with a lozenge, as there wasn't a cost effective alternative (Sprengers are v. expensive!)
